About Us
Fasten is a boutique, art gallery, workshop studio, and launch pad dedicated to the thriving art and fashion community of Milwaukee. Established in 2003 at a weekend market on Milwaukee’s east side and gaining momentum and participants ever since, Fasten is a group effort to provide an outlet for independent designers. The store has been established in Milwaukee’s unique Bay View neighborhood since 2005.In the store, you will find fashion-forward clothing, accessories, and jewelry hand-made by over 50 local designers. A vast range of styles are available for women, men, and kids too. A unique selection of sewing supplies and vintage fabrics are for sale as well as local music and independent zines. The art on the walls changes monthly to feature local talent.
The collective has produced over a dozen runway fashion shows at various venues as well as in-store events such a gallery receptions, interactive art shows, and craft demos. Workshops are scheduled monthly with topics including basic sewing, t-shirt reclamation, jewelry-making, advanced sewing techniques, and knitting.
Through promoting self-expression, experimenting, and do-it-yourself attitudes, Fasten encourages walking art. The melding of styles, the featuring of recycled fabrics, and the alternative to sweatshop labor empowers conscious consumers. Buying local is good for our culture, environment, and economy. Fasten makes it easy, affordable, and fun.
